Greening of Streaming - (www.greeningofstreaming.org) - a not-for-profit members organisation focussing the streaming industry on developing joined-up engineering strategies to reduce energy waste in the delivery infrastructure - today welcomes AIBD as a new member.
The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) was established in August 1977 under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). It is a unique regional intergovernmental organisation servicing countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in electronic media development. The Government of Malaysia hosts the institute, and the secretariat is in Kuala Lumpur.
The AIBD, with its unique mandate, is instrumental in fostering a vibrant and cohesive electronic media environment in the Asia-Pacific region through policy and resource development.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) are the founding organisations of the Institute, and they are non-voting members of the General Conference. We work with UN organisations on sustainability as AIBD is an inter-governmental organisation. Since our primary focus is on the Asia-Pacific region (APAC), AIBD has been leading and pioneering sustainability for the broadcast and media sector. Sustainability is a business strategy; hence, all broadcast and media organisations must prioritise it.
Ben Schwarz, COO of Greening of Streaming, expressed his enthusiasm about the new partnership, stating, "As a member-driven organisation, we've been focussed on the geographies of our members. With the AIBD joining, our reach is becoming more global, helping us to build a broader consensus on sustainable engineering in streaming ecosystems."
